Gerrit Zitterbart was born in 1952 in Göttingen and received his education in Hanover, Salzburg, Freiburg and Bonn from Erika Haase, Karl Engel, Lajos Rovatkay, Hans Leygraf, Carl Seeman and Stefan Askenase.Zitterbart has profiled within his career both as a soloist and as a chamber musicians. His solo repertoire includes works from Scarlatti to Stockhausen and is extensively documented on CD.
Gerrit Zitterbart founded the Abegg trio in 1976. The trio received important awards (amongst others in Colmar and Geneva), undertook world tours with more than 1,200 concerts in 50 countries and recorded 30 partially award-winning CDs.
Gerrit Zitterbart has a passion for historical keyboard instruments: He not only installs them in solo concerts, but uses them for a whole new impetus in chamber music. Since 1981, Gerrit Zitterbart has a piano class at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover (University for music and theatre Hanover).
